Not sure why you play that tinkertoy kindergarten training wheel MMOG, WoW. It's so fucking homogenized they should sell it in quarts.

I quit WoW before BC came out when WoW-BoW at least had 50% real BoW members in it.

Game was too fucking easy and boring as hell.

I played EVE for a bit, came back to EQ a couple of times, played some City of Heroes/Villians but mostly these days I play Fallout 3, Bioshock, or TF2.

Hells yes, I miss Kunark/Velious style EQ. I would tongue kiss Kerrigan to get that game back.

edit: stealing someone's name is fucking weak sauce no matter who did it. If someone took Roehm and repp'ed themselves as me, I would get that game to grief them to death and then rez them then skullfuck them back to death.

Wow I vaguely remember when that happened to. So weird!

I play a bit if LOTRO and various other non MMO (Sims 3!). I have been watching both Star Wars and Star Trek, we shall see ;D

I am back in EQ now! I played WoW for a bit, and now that I've been back in EQ for a while, trying to log into WoW is actually...painful. Roehm hit the nail on the head.

At any rate, I moved over to The Rathe server, and joined Blood of the Spider (now Brotherhood of the Spider) along with some other Torv folks, including fabs, seraphita, and kiaralynn. Things are about as good as you could hope for in EQ, considering the current climate of MMO's.

I've been saying for a while, a company should put out something old school and challenging, instead of trying to come up with "the next big thing", or some other "new and innovative" bullshit. I would play it~

Where am I now?  Married w/two kids, just bought a house, haven't touched an MMORPG since dropping WoW years ago.  I miss it sometimes, but my wife keeps me busy with projects around the house to do to distract my cleric mind.  I miss old school raids, as was mentioned, Kunark, Velious.  I don't miss Luclin, damn 3 hours of clearing trash mobs that don't drop a damn thing, trains galore, minimal payoff at the high end.  Honestly, my favorite times in EQ were when me and Foglor first got started and found out that the frogs at the entrance of Guk dropped mesh pieces that sold for 2p+ to cloth wearing folk.  We were rich!

I play WoW these days with a few real-life friends on the Llane server. I don't have any desire to raid in WoW or any other game again, and enjoy getting what I can solo because most of the people I meet are self-serving attention lacking fuckwits who piss me off to no end anyway, so I'm gonna guess I'm not missing out on much by not grouping with anyone on the regular.

EQ definately spoiled the lot of us that went at it full-bore, though- no other game can ever compare to EQ for the simple fact that there will never again be a player base new to the whole MMORPG experience. We were the first, we were the basic units of statistics that all other companies are modelling their products after. We trailblazed the way for other developers to decide with ease what works, and most importantly, what DOESN'T.

We beta tested cyberspace, went boldly where no one had ever gone before, and kicked it's simpering little ass. Developers threw their best at us, and we swatted it down like a noisome little pest. The intellect of one human is strong, but the intellect of a group of angry, hungry little button monkeys eager to splash the waves of cyberspace with the news of their victory, that... well, that was US.

We didn't just play the game, our lives revolved around it- when the servers were down, we took our action to the boards- I bet some of the most intense ezboard flames were during downtime, because everyone was so wound up to play they had to take it out SOMEWHERE.

I truly think the only time way we'll ever get the same feelings EQ elicited from us is when virtual reality, the real thing- the true integration between human and machine- allows us to feel the internet, taste it, smell it, touch it- that will be the real next best thing. Will it happen in our lifetime? What if it is right now...

only if you stay awake past 8 o'clock to do it!   ;D

you will misterously awaken to find yourself still alive!

Yeah, I think my days of raiding are pretty over. Too busy! I play in small spurts with my boyfriend, sister and an occassional old eq buddy, (usually leno) but hey i drag more with me sometimes :).

Get off my lawn sonny!

Oh and what do the wife and I do. Well I got her a laptop finally and she is online more than me lately. She chats on IM and plays games on Pogo. Pogo is a godsend because it quenches her desire to hit the Indian casinoes we got all over the place here.

We spent a week in Vegas in May to celebrate our 20th anniversary and wife tells me "good thing I have Pogo or I'd have to join Gambler's Anonymous". She did come out of the trick $200 up. Me? I dropped $150 playing low stakes power (no, Ganga I didn't fall asleep... I only do that when I raid every night til midnight, hehe).

Upon reading Roehm's threats, I vaguely considered rolling a RoehmTew on Icecrown, and apping to BoW there, just to provoke him... but if a BoW has no BoW members, is it really BoW?  That totally wouldn't work.  I mean, they wouldn't even know why it was spelled "Tew".

WoW doesn't have raiding.  It never really did, but it's worse now.

EQ was an accident.  Nagafen, etc., were supposed to be nearly impossible 6 man content, but players turned it into "raids", which resulted in large social constructs forcing large amounts of peer pressure to keep people playing.  The content didn't have to be amazing, because player competition took the culture to a higher level.  Smed/McQuaid got lucky that players adapted in a way they didn't forsee, that happened to cause social effects.

WoW, on the other hand, tries to drive large populations with content easily accessible by everyone.   Naturally, the lowest common demoninator means it has to be stupidly easy.  Go stand outside Ulduar approaching a server's raid time, and you'll see 2-300 people wearing identical nearly "best" gear sets.   There is no "#1 serverwide".  The bragging rights are... "we got $EasyInstancedContent 2 hours before you, nyeah nyeah!"  (And if anyone is about to say "achievements from hard modes!"  Yeah.   The ratio of idiots to competent people is a ton higher in WoW than EQ.  I don't have the patience anymore to do the same shit over and over because the same 50% of the raid is repeatedly sucking for hours.  In EQ, we'd just replace their ass.  In WoW, there's nobody to replace with.  I mean, I kicked Zophim (or was he Skaxx by then?) from the guild once for talking about raising the standards on cleric apps, because I thought the recruiting pool was piss poor on Torvonnilous and we couldn't really get away with it... and the recruiting pool in WoW makes EQ look like a farmer's market / smorgasboard.  (effing Sythrak re-inviting him, wtfs))

Nominally I'm still a raiding member of a guild on Uther, but I posted a month ago that I'll be permanently casual later this year, and so have been dodging playing, staying around as backup in case someone dies or whatever until gone for good... starting the FEMBA program at Anderson (UCLA) so I can turn evil.  I mean, gotta have some evil to go with my yelling at people right?  I'll practice Roehm's button pushing monkey speech a lot.

Kingdom of Loathing is still awesomely hardcore bad ass... My Pastamancer is 31 now and tearing it up in Hobopolis. That's right, I kill hobo's on a browser based mmo. It's the only thing I have time for anymore.  I guess I would make more of an effort for pre-Luclin EQ but nowadays when I log in I run around all the old zones(the ones that haven't been revamped and screwed all the hell) and kill low level shit for the nostalgia of it. It's just a lot more depressing cause no one is in the zones with me. I feel like that 30 year old that crashes prom. It's sad, I just don't belong anymore, and nothing else sounds even remotely appealing.  This Evony is interesting though, passes the time anyway. Another free browser based.
